U-12 Strikers Shutout Menace on the Road

Chatham StrikersThe U-12 Chatham Strikers were back in action on Tuesday night in London against the NorWest Menace. Chatham was looking to rebound from only their 2nd league loss of the season by playing a complete game on the road. Chatham was able to hold on to, and increase their 1st place league standing by shutting out the Menace 2-0.

Chatham was also fortunate enough to welcome back some injured players which would hopefully give the team a needed boost. Chatham took a little while to settle in, but eventually they began to muster up some quality scoring chances. Eventually in the 25th minute of the 1st half, Ceara Travis was send in on breakaway from a Rhea VanHelden long ball up the middle. Travis outraced the Menace defence and calmly placed a left footed shot into the bottom of the net for a 1 – 0 Chatham lead.

Chatham was hoping to keep their momentum going in the 2nd half and only 5 minutes into that half, Logan Kucera’s shot toward the NorWest goal was blocked by a defenders hand ball. Kucera fired home a laser of a penalty kick to lift Chatham to a 2 – 0 lead. The goal was Logan Kucera’s team leading 6th of the season.

Chatham’s defence was their usual stingy selves, not allowing any great scoring chances from the NorWest forwards and allowing goalie Kaylee Boulley to earn her league leading 3rd shut-out of the season.
