No Bite For Sharks, Down Two Games

The Wheatley Sharks are struggling to find the same bite that made them the Cinderella story of least season’s playoffs. The Sharks lost their second straight game in their opening series with the Belle River Canadiens to fall behind 2-0 in the series Monday night.

Blake Jones opened the scoring for Belle River in the first period, which Wheatley answered immediately with a goal from Jesse Martin. Assisting on Martin’s goal was league rookie of the year and Player of the Month for January, Riley Babkirk.

In the second, Weston Gaul put Belle River ahead with a powerplay marker. Scott Chauvin and Chris DiNatale each picked up their first of three assists in the game on the goal. Only minutes later, Wheatley Jordan Carnevale answered back for Wheatley.

The Sharks however would find the back of the net for the remainder of the game as DiNatale, Gaul, Nik Dobrich, and Chauvin all potted goals for the Belle River Canadiens en route to a 6-2 win.

In other Great Lakes playoff news, Dresden takes on Blenheim in game two of their series Wednesday night with the Kings leading the series 1-0 after a 4-2 win Sunday night in Blenheim. Wednesday’s game is in Dresden.
