Men’s soccer

The Wallaceburg Sting will travel to Tillsonburg today. The game gets under way at 8 p.m. The Sting currently have 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie on the season.. good for a tie for third place in the First Division.

JRB Lacrosse

The Wallaceburg Red Devils are gearing up for game 3 of their playoff series with Spartan tomorrow in St. Catharines, and the club is calling out to the public to come to Wallaceburg memorial Arena on Canada Day Sunday. The team is hoping to get 1062 fans to fill the barn in Game 4. $1 for every ticket sold is going towards the United Way campaign. An air conditioned refreshment room will be open in the upstairs of the arena. game starts at 4 p.m.

NHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins have locked up their captain for more than a decade. Sidney Crosby will sign a 12-year, $104.4 million contract extension on Sunday that begins after next season. Crosby, 24, is entering the final season of a five-year, $43.5 million US contract extension signed in 2007.

The Vancouver Canucks have agreed to sign goaltender Cory Schneider to three-year, $12 million deal. Last season, he had a 20-8-1 record in 33 appearances in a backup role to Roberto Luongo with the Canucks.

Jonathan Quick agreed to a 10-year, $58 million contract extension yesterdsay with the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. The playoff MVP will be signed through the 2022-23 season.

NBA Draft

The Kentucky Wildcats became the first school to have the top two picks in the draftand tied a record with six players taken overall last night. The New Orleans Hornets selected forward Anthony Davis with the first pick, and Charlotte followed by taking fellow freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The Toronto Raptors picked the University of Washington’s Terrence Ross with the 8th pick, the Pistons selected Andre Drummond a forward from Connecticut 9th overall.

EURO 2012

Italy is cruising into the championship after ousting Germany 2-1 yesterday. The Italians will now battle Spain in the final on Sunday.

Wimbledon News

Former champion Rafael Nadal was beat in the second round in five sets by little-known Czech Lukas Rosol. Milos Raonic will once again have to wait to complete at match at Wimbledon. Raonic and American Sam Querrey had their second-round match postponed by darkness. The pair had split the first two sets. Maria Sharapova and Srena Williams both advanced on the women’s side.

Detroit 5 at 2 Tampa Bay – Miguel Cabrera cracked his 16th of the season, and Max Scherzer improved to 7-5 on the year… he struck out 7 in 6 innings…
