MMA News

After being a replacement himself for the main card at UFC 149, Dresden’s Chris Clements will now face a replacement fighter himself after his original opponent Siyar Bahadurzada was forced to pull out of the fight. Bahadurzada is injured and unable to compete in the bout, which will now feature Matt Riddle in his place against Clements. UFC 149 will take place at the Saddledome in Calgary, Canada, on July 21.

NBA

The LA Lakers pulled off a big sign and trade, acquiring Canadian point guard Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers sent two future first-round picks, two future second-round picks and $3 million in cash to the Suns for the 2-time MVP. Nash agreed to sign a 3-year $27 million contract. The Raptors and Knicks were reportedly in the running for Nash as well.

NHL

The Minnesota Wild made a big splash in the free agent market yesterday. The club signed forward Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter, both regarded as the top of the free agent class. Each deal is for 13 years and $98 million.

Free agent defenceman Matt Carle has signed a six-year, $33 million deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Minnesota 1 at 5 Detroit – Justion Verlander picked up his 9th win if the season, pitching a complete game, 4 hitter, allowing one run, walking one, and striking out 7. Miguel Cabrera cracked two homers, giving him 18 on the year.

Olympics

Oscar Pistorius has been competing for South Africa in the Paralympics for years, sprinting on two space-age prosthetic legs. But this year he qualified for the London Olympics, as a member of the South African relay team. A few years ago he won the right to compete against able-bodied runners, when the international Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that his prosthetics don’t give him an unfair advantage. Both of his legs were amputated when he was 11, because of a birth defect.
