NHL Free Agency didn’t last long for former Wallaceburg Lakers player Brad Staubitz Sunday as he was scooped up in the first day of signings.

Staubitz signed a two year contract with the Anaheim Ducks Sunday after splitting last season between the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild. He had 1 goal and 121 penalty minutes in 62 games last season with the teams.

Montreal picked up Staubitz midseason after he was placed on waivers by the Minnesota Wild.

Staubitz played for the Wallaceburg Lakers in 2000-2001. The Lakers advanced to the Great Lakes Junior C final that season but were swept by the Belle River Canadiens.

He has 215 career NHL games playing with San Jose, Minnesota, and Montreal while compiling 9 goals, 10 assists, and 480 penalty minutes.

Anaheim stated they were trying to add a physical presence and get bigger with the signing of Staubitz and other players on the first day of NHL free agency.
