Local racing
Racing at South Buxton Racing was postponed due to the rain on Saturday. Everything gets rolling at the track next weekend.
Junior C Hockey
The Wallaceburg Jr. “C” Lakers camp was held Saturday at the RBC Centre in Sarnia. 43 rookies and 15 vets took part. New head coach Paul Gealis says there was a lot of young talent trying out, adding it was gratifying to see the vets out competing for a spot. The Laker’s first exhibition game is August 30th vs. The Mooretown Flags.
PGA
Rory McIlroy won the PGA Championship, routing the field by a record eight strokes, for his second major title. McIlroy led throughout the final round shooting a 6-under 66 and eclipsing Jack Nicklaus’ seven-shot victory in 1980.
MLB
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 10-7. J.A. Happ picked up the win, his first as a Jay, Edwin Encarnacion cranked his 30th homer of the year and Rajai Davis drove in 5 runs in the win.
Texas beat the Tigers 8-3. Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs, leaving him with 98 on the season.
London 2012 Olympics
Soccer star Christine Sinclair carried the Canadian Flag into the closing ceremonies last night, as the Games of the 30th Olympiad came to a close. An array of British music stars completed the event with a host of hits from the past and present. The United States led the final medal count with 104 medals overall, 46 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze. Canada ended the Games with 18 medals overall, good for 13th in the World – 1 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze.
