Jr. B Lacrosse

The Wallaceburg Red Devils will have a new face behind the bench next season. First-year head coach Jamie Knight says he won’t be returning to the Jr B bench next year, citing family reasons and the desire to coach minor lacrosse instead. Knight added he only planned to coach the team the one year. There is no word yet on who’ll man the bench boss role next year for the Devils.

Felix Hernandez pitched the Seattle Mariners’ first perfect game and the 23rd in baseball history yesterday, dominating the Tampa Bay Rays in a 1-0 victory. The Mariners’ ace and former AL Cy Young Award winner struck out 12 batters en route to perfection. This is the third perfecto this season alone, as Phil Humber and Matt Cain already accomplished the feat.

Adam Dunn belted his major league-leading 34th homer, to lead a five-run seventh inning and send the Chicago White Sox past the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5. Jeff Mathis and Kelly Johnson went yard in a losing effort for Toronto.

The Detroit Tigers kept pace with the White Sox, as they topped the Twins 5-1. Max Scherzer improved to 12-6 on the season, striking out 10 in seven innings of work, while only allowing 4 hits and zero runs. Miggy Cabrera cracked his 30th homer of the season in the win.

San Fransisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has been suspended 50 games by the league for failing a drug test, after he showed elevated levels of testosterone.. Cabrera leads the NL in hits and is second in batting average. He said quote: “My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used.”

With exactly a month to go until their collective bargaining agreement expires, the NHL and its Players’ Association broke off yesterdayss negotiations with little progress on a new deal. Commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters afterwards there is still a wide gap between us.
