The Screenart boys U-14 Sting played in Sarnia against the second place Sarnia squad and came away with a well deserved 3-0 shutout over the weekend. Goal scorers were Trent Reaume, Dawson Russell and Brad Maxim. Dorian Namink had the shut-out. This completes the regular season for the boys who went undefeated . Playoffs start this week against Sarnia.

Justin Verlander tied a career high 14 strikeouts, to help the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 7-2 to grab game 1 of a four-game set. The Tigers, who have rattled off 5 straight wins, got homers from Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera.

The head of the NHL Players’ Association is set to make a counter-proposal to the league, as both sides work on a new collective bargaining agreements. Donald Fehr says he almost has everything together, and is likely to make part of his pitch during scheduled talks this week.
CFL
The B.C. Lions beat the Toronto Argonauts 18-9 last night. Travis Lulay connected with Akeem Foster for one touchdown, while backup Mike Reilly added another on a one-yard run. BC’s defence picked off Ricky Ray three times.
London 2012 Olympics
It was heartbreak for the Canadian women’s soccer team. With only 30 seconds until penalty kicks would decide the game between the top ranked U/S squad and Canada.. Alex Morgan’s header gave the US a 4-3 victory. Christine Sinclair scored all three goals for Canada. The US will now play Japan for the gold medal, while the Canadians will battle France for bronze on Thursday.
In canoeing, Canada’s Adam van Koeverden had a solid semi-final race and will be competing in the men’s K-1 1000m final.
Canada didn’t get a medal yesterday, and still sit with 10, one gold, three silver and 6 bronze.
