JRC Hockey

Mooretown upset Blenheim 5-2. Tonight, the Dresden Kings are in action as they travel to Wheatley to face the Sharks.


The Chatham Maroons stayed hot, topping Lasalle 3-2. They are currently two points behind the Leamington Flyers, who have three games in hand.

St. Thomas topped the Flyers 3-1.


London topped Sudbury 4-2. Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith was held off the score sheet.


Wallaceburg’s Shaun Suisham was perfect once again for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The WDSS grad was 3-3 on field goal attempts, connecting from 47 yards and twice from 42 yards out in a 24-17 Steelers win over the Bengals. Suisham is 14-15 so far on the year, kicking at a 93.3% clip.

High school

The CKSS Midget Boys Volleyball team won their first tournament of the season on home court. The Golden Hawks cruised through the round robin finishing first overall. The final ended with CK beating the LKCS Cardinals 25-18 and 25-22.

Kyle Bechard picked up a fumble on the last play of the game and ran it into the end zone for Greener Project Development to clinch the tie.

Bradley Wild scored on touchdown runs of 70 and 51 yards and also ran a fake punt into the end zone from 60 yards out to lead TVCogeco.

Zach Emerson scored on a 57 yard double reverse and Ryan Noel scored on a 20 yard QB keeper on a broken play for Bedell’s.


Ryan Vogelsong struck out a career-best nine in another post-season gem and the San Francisco Giants forced a decisive Game 7 in the NL championship series with a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night. The Giants have won five straight games this post-season when facing elimination. The winner faces the AL camp Detroit Tigers, starting on Wednesday.

Keeping with baseball

John Farrell is leaving the Toronto Blue Jays bench and will manage the Boston Red Sox next season.  In compensation the Jays receive infielder Mike Aviles for pitcher David Carpenter.
