CKXS Sports Briefs: December 28, 2012


Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith picked up an assist in a 9-4 London Knights win over the Windsor Spitfires. The Knights have now won 22 straight games.


The Wallaceburg Lakers will be in Alvinston.

The Canadiens are hosting the Sharks in Belle River.


No action last night, but tonight St. Mary’s is hosting Stratford.

World Junior’s

Team Canada came back to beat Slovakia today 6-3.

Spengler Cup

Team Canada rebounded with a 5-0 win over the hosts HC Davos. Canada is now 1-1 on the tourney.


The lock out enters Day 104. There are no talks scheduled between the League and Players.


Wallaceburg’s Shaun Suisham could be going to the Pro Bowl after all. The Pittsburgh Steelers kicker was named an alternate for the game yesterday, after the full rosters were announced the day before. Suisham could earn the nod if the need arises due to injury, the Super Bowl, or if a player doesn’t want to take part. The AFC kicker selected is Phil Dawson of the Cleveland Browns.

Nationals sports news

Christine Sinclair is taking home some more hardware. The soccer star, who led the Canadian women’s soccer team to a bronze medal at last summer’s Olympics, won the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as The Canadian Press female athlete of 2012.


Former New York Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui announced the end of a 10-year major-league career on Thursday. The 38-year-old native of Japan called it quits yesterday at a press conference in Manhattan.
