JRB Lacrosse news

The schedule has been released for the upcoming season. The Wallaceburg Red Devils will open their 2013 season with back-to-back home games May 4 and May 5. First against Spartan and then against the London Blue Devils.

Local Soccer news

Registration for Wallaceburg minor soccer takes place tonight at First Baptist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. with other dates to follow. Soccer is alive and well locally, even with snow on the ground. Soccer is being played daily at the BMO Indoor Soccer Complex in London. Three local girls Abbey Broad, Tamara Gamble and Kourtney O’Connor, all WDSS students, are in their second season playing for London’s Girls U18 Southwest Slammers. They travel to London to play one or two games every weekend.


The Wheatley Sharks topped Alvinston 6-3 last night. Kyle Quick and Craig Adamson scored a pair each for the Sharks, who remain in third place in the league five points behind Belle River, and 4 points up on the fourth place Dresden Kings.

Tonight, the Essex 73s host the Blenheim Blades.

No action in the JRB or OHL loops.

Nashville 0 at 4 Phoenix – Coyotes goalie Chad Johnson made 21 saves for the shut out.
Colorado 1 at 4 Edmonton – All four Oilers goals came on the powerplay….Former Sarnia Sting forward Nail Yakupov scored his 3rd of the season.
Vancouver 2 at 3 Los Angeles (SO) – Essex counties Zack Kassian scored another goal his fourth of the season for the Canucks, but it was Jeff Carter who scored the shootout winner for the defending champs.

More NHL news

The Montreal Canadiens signed defenceman P.K. Subban to a two-year contract worth a total of $5.75 million. Subban had sat out the first four games of this season while the two sides negotiated a contract.
