Wallaceburg’s Deanna Kerkhof, a senior guard at Northeastern, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team for women’s basketball in District 1. Kerkhof will move to the Academic All-America Team ballot. The First, second and third teams will be selected later this month.


Pistons and Raptors had the night off.


The regular season wraps up tonight for the Dresden Kings. They will host the Belle River Canadiens tonight at 7:30 p.m. but they already have their eyes on Monday night when the playoffs begin.

Game 1 is Monday at Dresden Arena between the Kings and Blenheim Blades. Game 2 shifts to Blenheim on Wednesday before heading to Dresden next Friday for Game 3.

The Wallaceburg Lakers have to wait till tomorrow night to know their playoff fate. They currently hold the 8th and final playoff spot, but if the Kingsville Comets take 2 points off the Essex 73s tomorrow, they would leap past the Lakers and into the playoffs.


Leamington beat London 3-2 in OT.

And St. Thomas topped Sarnia 6-5 in OT.


Peterborough topped the Spits 7-5.


Colorado 6 at 3 Calgary – TJ Brodie was scoreless in 18 minutes of ice time.. recording one shot on goal..

Washington 2 at 3 Toronto – James Van Riemsdyk and Nikolai Kulemin scored for Toronto, while Matt Frattin completed the comeback with his game winning third period goal.

Edmonton 2 at 3 San Jose (SO) – In othern Oilers news, Ryan ones of Chatham skated for the first time yesterday sicne injuring his eye on New Years Eve

Pittsburgh 3 at 0 NY Rangers – Tomas Vokoun made 28 saved for the shut-out.
