CKXS Sports Briefs: February 8, 2013


TJ Brodie was rock solid for the Calgary Flames in a 4-3 OT win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Brodie picked up two assists on the night, including a helper on Alex Tanguay’s OT winner. Brodie was plus 3 on the night in just over 20 minutes of ice time.

Toronto 3 at 2 Winnipeg – Phil Kessel scored his first of the year, a powerplay marker in the third for the winner.

No action in the JRC Playoffs last night.

Game 3’s in each series takes place tonight.

The Dresden Kings are hosting the Blenheim Blades. They are all tied at 1 game apiece. Puck drops at 7:30 tonight. make sure to tune into 99.1 as we will be broadcasting the game LIVE.

Essex hosts Kingsville tonight. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

Mooretown visits Belle River. Game time is 7:30.

Wheatley heads Alvinston. Puck drops at 7:30.

The 73s, Canadiens and Sharks all hold 2-0 leads in each of their series.


The Chatham Maroons topped the St. Thomas Stars 7-4.

Leamington beat St. Mary’s 6-2.

And Sarnia beat London 5-4 in OT.


The Sarnia Sting topped the London Knights 4-3 in OT. Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith scored a goal and added an assist in the loss.

And Windsor beat Peterborough 9-4.


Sources says Felix Hernandez has agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract that will make him the highest-paid pitcher in baseball history to stay with the Seattle Mariners.

Former Toronto Blue Jays slugger George Bell and Montreal Expos speedster Tim Raines headline the Class of 2013 at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Rob Ducey and broadcasting legend Tom Cheek are also being inducted.
