Basketball news

Wallaceburg native Deanna Kerkhof took home some hardware this week. The Northeastern University guard was named the Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball player of the week yesterday. She averaged 21 points in two games last week.


Detroit 90 at 103 Utah


The Chatham Maroons are facing the Strathroy Rockets in the next round of the playoffs. Game 1 is slated for Thursday night in Chatham. Puck will drop in the opening game at 7 p.m. Game 2 is slated for Saturday in Strathroy, Game 3 will shift back to Chatham for Sunday at 7 p.m., and Game 4 is back in Strathroy next Tuesday.

Calgary 1 at 3 Los Angeles – Dustin Brown netted a pair to lead the Kings. TJ Brodie was even in 22 minutes of ice time for the Flames.

Boston 3 at 2 Ottawa (SO) – David Krejci scored the shootout winner.

High school sports

With the end of teacher job actions involving the removal of extracurricular activities, it took little time for schools to return to high school sports prior to March Break. High school hockey, curling, and basketball wrapped up winter seasons. But the spring season will be jam packed with badminton, soccer, track and field, rugby, and football practices already started at most schools, Badminton tournaments will begin this month, with track meets coming in April. As well, soccer and rugby schedules for both boys and girls leagues are in the works.


The Seattle Seahawks have added Pro Bowl receiver Percy Harvin to their roster. The Minnesota Vikings sent Harvin to the Seahawks in exchange for a handful of draft picks.

The Baltimore Ravens have traded wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers for a sixth-round pick.
