After upsetting a favoured London Croatia club in the premier cup semi-finals, the Wallaceburg Sting took to their home pitch on Thursday, August 8. The Sting came out and moved the ball well, controlling the pace of the game and creating quality scoring chances. When the first half came to a close, however, the Sting trailed 1-0, after Croatia got a late goal on their only real scoring chance of the entire half.

The second half began much the same, seeing the Sting control time of possession with the ball, really putting the Croatian defenders under duress. Wallaceburg continued to mount pressure all the while playing sound defense and thwarting their opponents of any further golden opportunities. While it seemed the Sting couldn’t play a much more sound game versus a quality opponent, their efforts were all for naught. Unable to get a ball past the Croatian keeper, the Sting fell by the game’s only marker, in a 1-0 defeat.

The Wallaceburg Sting continue to sit in sixth place in the ten-team premier division of the WOSL. They next play on Friday, August 16 at London Marconi, with kick-off set for 8:30 PM. The Sting will return home on Tuesday, August 20 to play a re-scheduled match-up vs. Sarnia FC. Kick-off at Kinsmen Park is set for 6:30 PM.
