The UCC Lancers girls rugby team has had a storybook season, and it continued this week as the Lancers defeated Sarnia St. Patrick’s 29-5 in the ‘AAA-AAAA’ SWOSSAA Final.

The win sends the Lancers to the OFSAA Rugby Championships June 2-4 in Hamilton.

Katrina Heyink led the scoring charge for UCC collecting two tries in the win. Bailey Walker, Hannah Cartier, and Delaney Taylor also scored tries for the high powered Lancers team, who finished the Kent season undefeated and also won the UWO tournament this year.

Walker also kicked two converts for UCC in the win.

The Lancers have attended five straight OFSAA rugby championships.

In other local rugby action, the Wallaceburg Tartans were eliminated in their own SWOSSAA ‘AA’ game, falling 27-0 to the St. Clair Colts.

The game, a first for the Tartans, marks their most successful season finish since re-entering the KCSSAA loop last year.

Next season, UCC and Wallaceburg will face regular competition from the Sarnia schools as the Kent and Lambton high school athletic associations will amalgamate into one organization known as LKSSAA.
