Chatham’s Mallory Johnston will be representing Canada for the third time this coming summer, as Johnston was named to Team Canada’s ball hockey team this wee.

Johnston, who plays ice hockey in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, the worlds top female circuit, with the Brampton Thunder, will be looking to add to her already impressive medal count.

In 2011, her first time representing the Canadian Ball Hockey Association’s entry into the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation World Championship, Johnston won a silver medal in Slovakia, and added to that two years later in 2013, winning gold with Canada in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

“I am very pleased to have such a solid veteran base and also to welcome some really exciting new talent,” said head coach Diana Brown on the Canadian Ball Hockey Association website of the team selection. “In defending our World Champion status we will face some stiff competition from some hard playing teams such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the U.S. but I am confident that our team has what it takes to capture gold again.”

Canada’s roster includes 14 players from 2013, including Chatham’s Mallory Johnston. They’ll travel to Zug, Switzerland for the 2015 World Championships, which take place from June 19-28.

A graduate of Colgate, where she played NCAA hockey, Mallory Johnston grew up playing ball hockey in Chatham with the Chatham Coyotes.
