A group of community members attempting to qualify Chatham, Ontario for Kraft Hockeyville’s Top 10 voting held a rally at Chatham Memorial Arena Sunday night following the Chatham Maroons game to garner support for the bid.

“Chatham itself is a hockey community, we want to keep it a hockey community,” said Dennis Parker, one of the Chatham citizens leading the charge in Chatham’s Kraft Hockeyville push.

The winning city, which will be announced following voting in March, will receive $100,000 for arena upgrades, and an NHL preseason game.

“We want to get this arena upgraded, and get more people out enjoying Chatham Memorial Arena,” explained Parker of the reasons behind nominating Chatham as Kraft’s Hockeyville. “We have a lot of issues with this arena that keep people away.”

“I have four children myself, they all enjoy the sport of hockey, which is my big thing, getting that NHL game to Chatham.”

As for how Chatham residents can support the nomination, Parker says citizens can visit the Hockeyville website and nominate Chatham, and “like” their Chatham Kraft Hockeyville 2015 Facebook Page.

“People in Chatham can get on the internet, they can get on the Kraft Hockeyville website, they can like our page right now.”

“If we get into that top 10, we will be winning this thing.”
