When OFSAA decided to amalgamate the ‘AAA’ and ‘AAAA’ levels this year into one larger ‘AAA’ division, it meant many traditional powerhouse teams would have new challenges to reach the provincial high school championship tournament.

The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks senior boys volleyball team faced that challenge, and overcame it, to advance to their 16th straight OFSAA ‘AAA’ volleyball championship tournament.

Facing the St. Anne Saints on the road in the SWOSSAA final, CKSS fought to a nailbiter 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 17-15 win.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Hawks let things slip away before narrowly defeating St. Anne in a fifth and deciding game.

The Hawks will again travel to Essex County to attempt to medal for the 4th straight season at OFSAA, as OFSAA will be hosted in Windsor November 26-28.

Last year, CKSS brought home an antique bronze after winning two consecutive OFSAA gold medals.
