Drouin Leaps to Rio

Corunna’s Derek Drouin will be competing in the High Jump event in this years Olympic Games in Rio De Janerio, Brazil.

Drouin is the reigning IAAF World Championship in Athletics Gold Medalist, Pan Am Games Gold Medalist, and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist. He Also took bronze in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England, with a jump of 2.29.

Derek also holds the Canadian Record with a jump of 2.40 meters, or 7 feet 10 and a half inches.

Drouin’s competition will begin on August 14th, where he will compete along side fellow Canadian jumper Michael Mason of West Newminister, British Columbia.

Derek Drouin is the favourite to win the Gold in the High Jump event. After coming off two of the best meets of his life, he remains humble:

“The nice thing about completion is it doesn’t matter what you did yesterday, it all comes down to who is the best competitor that day.”
