Port Lambton Pirates Pick Up 3 W’s

Rich Leach carried the Port Lambton Pirates to a 5-3 victory over Wyoming Sr. on Sunday at Vandamme Park with a strong game at the plate and on the bump.

The Port Lambton Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Kyle Bushey kicked things off for the Port Lambton Pirates with a single. A stolen base then moved Bushey from first to second. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.

The Port Lambton Pirates took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory. The Port Lambton Pirates went up for good on a three-run double by Leach off #6, plating Matt Johnston, Adam Rose and Kyle Bushey. Leach racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Port Lambton Pirates. He singled in the fifth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Wyoming Sr’s lineup had no answer for Leach. Wyoming Sr. managed just two hits off of Leach, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his two innings of work.

On Saturday, The Port Lambton Pirates jumped out to an early lead on Dresden Sr. and captured an 11-1 victory at Vandamme Park.

Nine runs in the first three innings allowed the Port Lambton Pirates to put the game away early. Travis Bennett racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Port Lambton Pirates. Cory Toms got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed one run over three innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered two hits.

 

On Sunday, Matt Johnston knocked in three runs, helping the Port Lambton Pirates to a 7-2 victory over Chatham Jr at Vandamme Park.

The Port Lambton Pirates stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring two runs on a two-run double by Matt Johnston. The Port Lambton Pirates piled on two more runs in the bottom of the second. A sacrifice fly scored Matt Liberty to get the Port Lambton Pirates on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Matt Johnston’s single, scoring Cory Toms.

One run in the top of the third helped Chatham Jr close its deficit to 4-1.

The Port Lambton Pirates posted one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth. In the fourth, the Port Lambton Pirates scored on a groundout by Rich Leach, bringing home Ryan Richardson. After pushing across one run in the top of the sixth, Chatham Jr faced just a 6-2 deficit. An error fueled Chatham Jr’s comeback. Finally, Toms got a ground out to end the threat.

The Pirates finished the regular season in 1st place winning the Western Counties Sr League regular season title. Playoffs start this week with the Pirates taking on Dresden in round 1 on Friday at 7 pm in Courtright.
