U15 Strikers Sweep Tournament

Chatham GU15 Strikers went undefeated in 5 games to win the Brantford Soccer Classic Championship this weekend. The girls played against strong competition from across Southwestern Ontario.

Chatham first met, and beat Brantford Galaxy 1-0 in pool play.

Jessica Conrod scored the lone goal for the U15 Strikers.

They next met Oakville Soccer, where Chatham capitalized early. Alexa Arbour made a beautiful cross to Conrod who made a nice finish to the corner. Kaitlyn Isaac sent a perfect through ball to Conrod who scored to finish the game 2-0.

Strikers finished 2nd out of 9 teams in pool play and advanced to play in the quarter finals against Windsor Wheels. The Strikers went to work quickly to score 3 goals early in the game.

Conrod scored the first on a breakaway. Mackenzie French scored the second off a well-placed cross from Joelle Tetrault.

Hailee Landuyt made a nice drop to Taryn Dudley who nailed a great shot to the top corner to go up 3-0.

Kayla Coates finished the scoring with a great shot off a corner kick from Alexis Jenkins.

In the Semi-finals Chatham faced Saltfleet of Stoney Creek.

Conrod scored early assisted by Isaac. Isaac displayed some great footwork, breaking ankles left and right, and finished with a well-placed shot to go up 2-0. Conrod scored on a breakaway to finish the half 3-0.

Dudley nailed a shot which hit the crossbar and Coates got the rebound to go up 4-0.

Isaac got her second of the game to finish the scoring and ending the game in a 5-0 victory.

Strikers met the home club Brantford Galaxy once again in the final.

Shelbie Coristine sent the ball through to Conrod who capitalized on a breakaway early in the first half.

Chatham displayed some fantastic passing and very solid defensive play but Brantford capitalized on 2 penalty shots to make the game 2-1 at half.

The girls kept their composure and came out determined in the second half. Isaac scored on a penalty shot to tie the game 2-2 sending it into sudden death overtime.

Chatham dominated the overtime, Alexa Arbour capitalized off a rebound from the crossbar and nailed the golden goal with an amazing header.

The girls displayed some of the best soccer their coaches & family have seen this season. Fantastic play in the midfield by Coristine Dudley, Kaitlyn Isaac, Emily Barstead and Kennedey Jack.

Outstanding defensive play by Joelle Tetrault, Legacie Blackbird, Payton Sabourin, Clair Boughner and Meagan Hitchcock.

Keeper Hunter Gagner was a brick wall in net, and earned herself 4 shutouts throughout the tournament.
