On Saturday October 21 the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) and Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) will be holding the first-ever PJHL Prospects Day in New Hamburg.

Eight teams have been assembled from the top 16 and 17 year old players (2000’s and 2001’s) from across the 21 PJHL with players representing all eight PJHL Divisions.

The OHA is extremely pleased that the PJHL has implemented this initiative league-wide, as OHA President Karen Phibbs explained, “This is an excellent opportunity for the league’s top young players to be exposed to scouts from higher levels of hockey and learn about future opportunities in hockey from the guest speakers. This will be a great day of hockey for everyone involved and will be a fantastic lifelong memory for our young players. The OHA is committed to player and program development and supports the teams of the PJHL as they continue to pursue excellence at the Junior level.”

Local players Lucas Fancy (Blenheim Blades), Michael Vanek (Blenheim Blades), Aidan Lachine (Dresden Kings), Nolan Ross (Dresden Kings), Cole MacKinnon (Petrolia Flyers), Bailey Smith (Wallaceburg Lakers), and Jake Vancoille (Wallaceburg Lakers) will all compete for the Stobbs Division team.

Another group of local players, Colton Shoemaker (Blenheim Blades), Ethan Paxton (Blenheim Blades), Joe Betterley (Blenheim Blades), Brodie Conlon (Dresden Kings), Cody Hitchcock (Dresden Kings), and Spencer Preece (Dresden Kings) will play for the PJHL Black team.

PJHL Prospects Day will feature four full-length games between the eight teams beginning at 10:30 AM.

Doug Kennedy, Chair of the PJHL Committee, and the General Manager of the Kincardine Bulldogs, believed this idea would work as it was something they had previously done between leagues.

“We always had luck showcasing 16 and 17 year olds and we knew it could be done on a bigger scale. This is a great showcase for the players and for the league.”

The PJHL Stobbs Division team will face the Yeck Division at 10:30am to open the festivities. PJHL Black will face the Pollock Division at 2pm.
