Chatham’s Larry Balkwill is moving to a new professional baseball league after signing with The Chicago Dogs.

The Chicago Dogs play in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, a twelve team loop in the Central United States, with one franchise located in Canada (Winnipeg).

The Dogs signed Balkwill, a catcher this week.

Balkwill, a former Detroit Tigers draft pick, spent the past four seasons playing for the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League.

Last season, Balkwill had a .221 batting average, with 13 home runs and 46 RBIs in 89 games.
