Chatham Y Pool Shark, Quinn Matteis competed for Team Ontario at a recent Open Water Swim Competition in Miami, Florida. He raced the 800m and 5km events.

In the 13-14 year old age category he placed first in each distance.

For the 800m race, Matteis swam 13:20.15. Overall, in the Male Division, he placed second to his teammate from Club Warrior in Waterloo.

In the 5km distance, Matteis won the 13-14 year old age category and placed 6th overall in the Male Division with a time of 64:15.25. This was Matteis first open water international competition.

Matteis coach, Brian Lindsay had only positives to say about the young swimmer.

“It was great to be a part of the Ontario Coaching Team and witness not just Quinn’s excellent performances but of the whole Ontario Team,” said Lindsay. “He and his teammates adjusted to the salt water of the ocean very well.”
