Dover Centre’s Burke Bechard received a major award to close out her University of Guelph Gryphons athletic career being named Guelph’s W.F. Mitchell Sportswoman of the Year.

Below is the statement from the University of Guelph:

For the past five years, Burke has been the heart and soul of the Gryphons women’s basketball team on the court and in the community, with the fifth-year psychology major capping off her career with an impressive senior season where she finished top two in the OUA in points per game, field goal percentage, and 3-point percentage. For a third straight year, Burke earned OUA all-star status after being named an OUA West First Team All-Star. The 23-year-old native of Dover Centre, Ontario, who led her team to a playoff berth in each of her four seasons of on-court action, also became just the third Gryphons women’s basketball player in program history to receive the OUA’s Joy Bellinger Award for her outstanding career contributions to OUA basketball.
