<p>The Detroit Red Wings are heading to the second round! Detroit topped Anaheim 3-2 to oust the Ducks. Henrik Zetterberg, Justin Abdelkader and Valtteri Filppula all scored for the Wings.</p>
<p>The Toronto Maple Leafs were in survival mode last nighjt in Toronto, as they have forced a decisive Game 7 with a 2-1 win over Boston. Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel scored third period goals for the Leafs, while James Reimer made 29 saves in the victory. Game 7 is tonight in Boston, puck drops at 7.</p>
<p>In other NHL action:</p>
<p>The New York Rangers stayed aliove and forced a game 7 against Washington, winning 1-0. Game 7 is tonight in Washington.</p>
<p><strong>World Hockey Championships</strong></p>
<p>Team Canada topped Czech Republic yesterday 2-1, to clinch a spot in the quarter finals. TJ Brodie was -1 in the game. Canada play Slovenia today at 2:15 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>OHL</strong></p>
<p>Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith and the London Knights will host the Barrie Colts tonight in Game 7. The winner of this game are the OHl champions! Puck drops at Budweiser Gardens at 7:05 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>JRB Lacrosse</strong></p>
<p>Organeville topped the Wallaceburg Red Devils 13-9 on Saturday. Jordan Durston scored five goals and had two assists in the loss.</p>
<p><strong>Local racing</strong></p>
<p>Port Lambton&#8217;s Drew Smith earned his first two checkered flags of his career, as the second-year driver won the heat and dash in the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified class on Saturday at South Buxton Raceway. Wallaceburg&#8217;s Willy Vyse won his heat race and finished second in the crack-the-whip in the Windride Transportation Sport Stocks. However, both classes, along with the UMP Late Models, did not run feature races as rain halted the racing action around 9 p.m. In the only feature that was run before the rain, Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano won his second straight in the Tirecraft Mini-Mod class. Racing continues this Saturday at 7 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>PGA Tour</strong></p>
<p>Tigers Woods claimed the Players Championship over the weekend, beating out Sergio Garcia down the stretch for the win.</p>
<p><strong>NBA Playoffs</strong></p>
<p>San Antonio 87 at 97 Golden State &#8211; The series is tied 2-2.</p>
<p><strong>MLB</strong></p>
<p>Cleveland 4 at 3 Detroit &#8211; 10 innings.</p>

<p>Fan balloting for South Buxton Raceway’s Best Appearing Cars takes place this Saturday during the night&#8217;s racing action as well as at an afternoon viewing party. Several race cars from South Buxton’s five divisions will be on display at the Tirecraft location on Richmond Street in Chatham from noon to 4 p.m., where ballots will be available.The grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.Winners of the fan vote will be announced on May 18.</p>

<p>It was heart break last night for the two local teams.</p>
<p>Boston 4 at 3 Toronto (OT) &#8211; David Krejci scored the OT winner at the 13:06 mark of the extra frame, to complete the hat-trick. The Bruins now lead the series 3-1. Joffrey Lupul, Cody Franson and Clarke Macarthur scored the Leafs goals. Game 5 is tomorrow in Boston.</p>
<p>Detroit 2 at 3 Anaheim (OT) &#8211; Nick Bonino was the hero for the Ducks, as he scored at the 1:54 mark of the first OT for the winner. The Ducks now hold a 3-2 series lead.</p>

<p>Washington 3 at 4 NY Rangers &#8211; The series is tied at 2’s.<br />
Los Angeles 3 at 2 St. Louis (OT) &#8211; The Kings grabbed a 3-2 series lead.</p>
<p><strong>High school girls rugby</strong></p>
<p>The Blenheim Bobcats blanked the Wallaceburg Tartans 34-0. The Bobcats coaches said Wallaceburg caught Blenheim off guard at the beginning of play with a very tough style of play and aggressive defense.</p>
<p><strong>Senior girls soccer</strong></p>
<p>UCC blanked McGregor 4-0.</p>
<p><strong>Senior boys soccer</strong></p>
<p>Mitch Hakker scored a hat-trick for the Lancers, whoe beat the Oanthers 3-2. Nate St. Pierre scored a pair in the loss.</p>
<p><strong>Local soccer</strong></p>
<p>Last night (Wed., May 8th), the Wallaceburg Sting Girls U18 soccer team opened their 2013 season in the London and District Youth Soccer League. They hosted their long time rivals, London Southwest Storm, and defeated them 4 to 0. It was an impressive team victory with the girls displaying lots of controlled passing, solid defensive play and goaltending, topped off with some great goals. Scoring for the Sting girls were: Emily Pepper (2), Abbey Broad and Alyssa Lucier. The shutout was recorded by Sydney Authier. The Sting U18 Girls’ next game is at home this Saturday, at Steinhoff Park against the Simcoe Strikers. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m.</p>

<p>Chicago 78 at 115 Miami &#8211; The Heat even the series a 1’s.<br />
Golden State 100 at 91 San Antonio &#8211; The Warriors evened their series a 1 game apiece as well.</p>

<p>The Washington Nationals topped the Tigers 3-1. Bryce Harper hit his 10th homer of the season for the Nats.</p>
<p>The Rays topped the Jays 10-4. Edwin Encarnacion homered in the loss. Ricky Romero was tagged with his 2nd loss of the season, he gave up 4 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs in a third of an inning.</p>

<p>Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ was hit in the head by a line drive and taken off the field on a stretcher during Toronto&#8217;s 6-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays last night. Happ was taken to hospital where he remains alert and in stable condition.</p>
<p>The Tigers game in Washington was postponed due to the weather, it will be made up tomorrow.</p>

<p>The Wallaceburg Red Devils split two games over the weekend. Wallaceburg topped London 15-13 yesterday for their first win of the year. Jordan Durston led the way with 12 points, including 4 goals and 8 assists. The Red Devils fell to Spartan 10-9 in a close one on Saturday.</p>
<p><strong>World Hockey Championships</strong></p>
<p>It wasn&#8217;t the best result fro TJ Brodie and his Canadian teammates yesterday. Team Canada lost to Switzerland 3-2 in a shootout. Matt Read and Andrew Ladd scored for Canada in regulation. Brodie logged 12 minutes of ice time, and had a minus 1 rating. Brodie played 12 minutes in a 3-1 win over Denmark, his first wearing his countries sweater. Canada plays Norway tomorrow.</p>
<p><strong>OHL</strong></p>
<p>The London Knights evened up their championship series with the Barrie Colts, with a 4-1 win yesterday. Wallaceburg&#8217;s Seth Griffith was the game’s first star, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the win. Game 3 in tonight in Barrie.</p>

<p>Veteran drivers Jim Dale Jr. of Shrewsbury and Steve Shaw of Merlin opened the 2013 stock car racing season at South Buxton Raceway wins in front a large opening night crowd Saturday. Dale Jr. won the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified feature while Shaw took the checkered flag in the Windride Transportation Sport Stocks. Dover Centre&#8217;s Tyler Lozon was second and Wallaceburg&#8217;s Willy Vyse third in the Sport Stocks feature. Leamington’s Justin Coulter won the UMP Late Model feature and Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano took the Tirecraft Mini-Mod feature.</p>

<p>The UCC Lancers topped the Wallaceburg Tartans 28-21. Aaron Zimmer had a four-yard touchdown run in the final minutes to preserve the win for the Lancers. Marc Kellett led the Tartans&#8217; on offence with touchdowns runs of 38, 25 and 15 yards, he finished with 161 yards on the ground.</p>

<p>After nearly a decade of waiting, it wasn&#8217;t the result Leafs fans were looking for with their club back in the playoffs. It was the Bruins drawing first blood in the series winning 4-1. James Van Riemsdyk scored the lone Leafs goal, giving them a 1-0 lead in the game but it was all Bruins after that. Wade Redden, Nathan Horton, David Krejci and Johnny Boychuk all scored for Boston. Game 2 is Saturday in Boston.</p>
<p>NY Islanders 0 at 5 Pittsburgh &#8211; Pascal Dupuis led the attack with a pair of goals, Marc-Andre Fleury was solid with 26 saves in the shut out. Their captain Sidney Crosby is still out with a broken jaw.</p>

<p>The Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins are heading outside again. Just not on New Year&#8217;s Day this time. The NHL announced Wednesday that the Blackhawks and Penguins will play at Soldier Field next year. The regular-season game between two of the league&#8217;s marquee franchises will be played on Saturday night, March 1.</p>

<p>London Nationals beat the Cambridge Winter Hawks 4-3 on Tuesday to tie the Sutherland Cup. The series is even at 2 games apiece.</p>

<p>Chatham-Kent’s own TJ Brodie is set to dawn the red and white for the first time in his career. The Calgary Flames defender is heading to Finland and Sweden to take part in the World Hockey Championships with Team Canada. Brodie says it was a cool experience getting the call about being selected for the team, from one of his child hood idols, Steve Yzerman. Team Canada opens up the tourney against Denmark on Saturday morning.</p>
<p><strong>OHL</strong></p>
<p>Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith and the London Knights will face-off against the Barrie Colts for the OHL Championship. The Colts topped Belleville 3-1 last night in Game 7 to win their semi-final series.</p>
