The Chatham Maroons managed to hold off a third period charge by the Lasalle Vipers to snake bite the road team with a 3-2 win.

Without their top scorers from last season in the lineup, the Maroons got out to an early lead on an unassisted goal by Sean Myers. Myers picked the top corner and the goal wasn’t awarded to the Maroons until after the next stoppage of play.

In the second period, the Maroons continued to hold off the Vipers extending their lead to 2-0. Troy Cox scored a powerplay marker in the penalty filled period. Cox’ goal was assisted by Steven Szekesky and Matt Speed.

Lasalle came out pressuring the Maroons in the third period, but Chatham goalie Connor MacKinnon was excellent throughout stopping 33 of 35 shots in the game. Although Lasalle struck first in the third period, Chatham bounced back on a goal from youngster Ian Faubert, assisted by Skekesky and Rio Anzolin.

Chatham will travel to Lasalle to complete their preseason schedule this Thursday before opening their regular season against the same Lasalle Vipers Wednesday, September 7 in Lasalle.
