The Dresden Kings showed no mercy to a frustrated Wallaceburg Lakers squad Friday night, hammering the Lakers 6-1.

After Scott Lubbers opened the scoring for the Wallaceburg Lakers, tipping in a Tyson Isaac shot on the powerplay, the Dresden Kings would take over.

Jim Rouse scored to tie the game, before James Shelton scored what would hold up as the game winner. Shelton’s goal came on the powerplay, on Tyson Isaac’s first of three slashing penalties in the game,

which would lead to his ejection. Isaac was playing in his first game after returning from a match penalty suspension for spitting into the opposing bench earlier this month.

In the second period, Cam Ross and Cody McPhail would add to the Dresden Kings lead, while Dresden goalie Brent Paxton shut the door on the Lakers. The Lakers had new goaltender Devin Cove between the pipes after the team split ways with former number one Reid Rankin. Cove was backstopping the CKSS Golden Hawks high school team this season.

McPhail opened the third period with his second goal of the game before Jeremy Griffore topped off the 6-1 win.

The game featured some chippy play including a heavyweight tilt between Justin Whitson of the Wallaceburg Lakers and Jesse Allen of the Kings following a stoppage in play.

The win marks the third straight victory for the Dresden Kings, while the Wallaceburg Lakers have now dropped 6 games in a row. Dresden now travels to Wheatley Monday to face the Sharks, while Wallaceburg is off until Wednesday when they welcome the Blenheim Blades to town.
