There will be a decided Chatham-Kent presence at the Score Fighting Series Saturday, October 19, when it rolls into the RBC Centre in Sarnia.

The fights will feature three local athletes, including veteran Jesse Gross, and two fighters making their professional MMA débuts, Tyler Kirk and Jo Petahtegoose.

Gross, who fights out of Adrenaline Training Centre in London, the same location Dresden’s Chris Clements trains, enters his fight against Seiji Sugiman-Marangos with a 6-3 record. This bout will be Gross’ first in a new weight class, as he will fight as a featherweight.

A veteran of the Score Fighting Series, Gross, who hails from Wallaceburg, fought last year at the Meltdown in the Valley event, losing on a controversial referees stoppage to Daron Cruickshank, who has since gone on to fight at the UFC level.

Tyler Kirk, who trains with Redemption MMA in Chatham, will be making his first professional appearance. Nicknamed “The Terminator,” Kirk currently holds a Michigan Combat League title, and enters with a 5-1 amateur record. Chris Kimmerly, who runs Redemption MMA and trains Kirk, stated in an earlier interview with CKSN that Kirk’s fight against Malcolm Gordon, is a big step in his career,

“This fight is the biggest test to Kirk’s career to date and will surely thrust Kirk and the rest of Redemption MMA into the Ontario MMA spotlight.”

Jo Petahtegoose, who trains at Gracie Barra in Chatham, and formerly in Tilbury, will also be making his professional MMA debut. Petahtegoose enters his fight against Kyle Nelson, with an 8-3 amateur record, including a TXC title.
