This is Shedden’s first time as the head coach for Canada’s Spengler Cup entry, after being an assistant coach with the team in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

In a release by Hockey Canada earlier this week, Brad Pascall, VP of hockey operations/national teams for Hockey Canada, had this to say about the selection of Shedden, and his assistant coach Chris McSorley, “We are extremely pleased with the experience of our coaches that will lead Team Canada at the Spengler Cup this year. Doug brings great international experience to the position as head coach and knows this event well.”

Shedden is currently the head coach of EV Zug, of the Swiss A League.

Shedden and Canada will open the 2012 Spengler Cup December 26 against Germany’s Alder Mannheim. All Canada games will be broadcast on TSN and TSN2.
