A group of premier local athletes have kicked off a new summer training program at Memorial Arena in Chatham as a part of Athletes’ Fuel Strength & Conditioning’s summer program.

“Our summer program is designed for athletes aged 10+ of all sports,” explained Athletes’ Fuel owner and head strength and conditioning coach Colin Roeszler. :Each session is 90 minutes in length. The first portion of the workout is focused on movement through soft tissue work, stretching, muscle activation, active warm-up, linear and lateral speed development, quickness, lower body power, and upper body and core power.”

“The second part of the workout is dedicated to explosive full-body power using the Olympic lifts,” continued Roeszler. “Increasing overall body strength, and various forms of conditioning.

The program, which runs in 2-day or 4-day per week sessions, has more than 60 athletes currently training, including OHL prospects Joseph Raaymakers, Trent Fox, Brady Pataki, Brendan Johnston, Levi Tetrault, and Dede Cato, and female players Zoe Ellis (University of Windsor Lancers), Chelsey Stevenson (Williams College – NCAA), and Sydnee Baker, who plays for the PWHL’s London Devilettes and is one of the areas top recruiting prospects.

Although the set up at Memorial Arena features impressive athletes and equipment, it isn’t permanent, as the ice will eventually have to return, and Athletes’ Fuel Strength & Conditioning, based on their success, have plans to move on to bigger and better things.

“We have purchased a full line of high performance training equipment, and truly resemble a layout that promotes athletic development and high performance training,” says Roeszler about the current layout at Memorial Arena. “In January, we will be moving into a partnership with chiropractor Dr. Frank Little on Queen Street. Our high performance training centre will be built starting in July,” explained Roeslzer regarding the new facility, which will be attached to Dr. Little’s current location.

Roeszler’s group of athletes have made huge strides in their careers recently, including Joseph Raaymakers, who attended the Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence goaltending camp in Calgary this past month. According to Roeszler, he believes the success of his group can in part be attributed to their work ethic during offseason training, such as the program currently being offered by Athletes’ Fuel.

“The flow in our training session truly addresses every quality an athlete needs to progress in his or her respective sport,” says Roeszler. “The amount of purposeful work we get done in a session is extremely high. When athletes complete a seasonal session, such as our summer program, they are easily able to see significant changes in their speed, power, strength, and conditioning levels during their sport. They really become a different player. Most end up continuing on with us to further progress.”
