EnviroClean Chatham-Kent Cougar of the Week: Darion Bacik
Darion Bacik had a tremendous game on Saturday against the Burlington Stampeders, helping the Cougars to a 37-6 win, securing an OFC Peewee title, and a perfect 6-0 record for the Peewee Cougars. Bacik, a versatile player for our OFC Cougar Peewee team this year played LB full time on defense, and rotated in as a quarterback, running back, and Slot on offense as the primary target producing big plays.
“Darion Bacik had a strong season for Cougars Football in both our Minor House league and now with Summer Travel football,” says Chatham-Kent Cougars president Sel Jordan of this week’s EnviroClean Car & Dog Wash Cougar of the week. “We are happy to have the support of his parents Kim Bacik as a volunteer and Mike Hadden as a coach in Fall and Summer with our Cougar Football program. Darion is only in grade 5, and can return back as a Peewee next year. The future looks bright for Darion if he continues to work hard on and off the field.”
On Saturday, Darion Bacik scored a TD on a 15-yard run to give the Cougars an 18-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. With under 2 minutes left in the half, Bacik threw and made a 65 yard connection to Ethan Jordan, putting the Cougars up 24-0 at the half and putting the game out of reach.
In the first series of the 3rd quarter Darion Bacik had a 65-yard run on a misdirection play where he out ran the Stampeders to the sidelines and then to the endzone to give the Cougars a 30-0 lead.
On Defense Bacik also contributed with 5 tackles and forced a fumble.
“Darion had an MVP worthy season,” said Peewee Cougars head coach Cesar Torres. “Darion is a gifted and talented athlete with football smarts. He has great instincts for the game.”
“Darion is a threat to score every time he touches the ball,” his coach continued. “He is a punishing tackler and a big reason for our teams success. Darion is always asking questions and always strives to get better. He will be the top player in Ontario at the Peewee level next season.”
