A trio of Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks badminton players have qualified for the 2015 OFSAA badminton championships.

The 2015 event, which will be held in Markham, Ontario, will feature the best senior badminton players from across Ontario.

CKSS’ Lee Kucera and Julie Earle advanced after winning the SWOSSAA Badminton Championships held in Leamington on Tuesday.

The mixed doubles pair were the LKSSAA and SWOSSAA champions, having played together since grade 10 when they also won SWOSSAA.

Tuesday at SWOSSAA, Kucera and Earle went undefeated, including a finals win against Leamington’s Agatha and Frank Driedger 21-14, 21-14.

Christian Bechard was the third Chatham-Kent participant to advance, finishing second in the boys singles final. Bechard lost a close final to Tecumseh Vista’s Henry Andkilde 24-22, 21-17.

OFSAA will take place from April 30 to May 2 at the Atos Markham Pan Am Centre, the nearly constructed facility which will play host to the 2015 Pam Am Games Badminton Championships.
