Bateman Back With Blades

Blenheim-Blades-RedIt will be a bit like a high school reunion when the Blenheim Blades open training camp for their 50th season.

First former Blade and Great Lakes rookie of the year in 2013-14 Drew Marlatt decided to return to Blenheim after a year of Junior B with the Lambton Shores Predators, and now the team is welcoming back defenceman Owen Bateman.

Bateman, a defenceman from Thamesville, played with the Blades as a rookie in 2012-13 before leaving for school, and in the process playing Junior C the last two years with the Port Perry Mojaks.

Bateman, 20, stands six-foot-three, and weighs in at 190, and gives the Blades another big experienced defenceman.

Over his three seasons of Junior C Bateman has played 108 games, scoring seven goals and adding 18 assists for 25 points while picking up 190 minutes in penalties.

The Blades will open training camp Monday, August 17 at the Blenheim arena in preparation for the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League season.
