Broad Makes Senior National Final

Madison Broad of the Chatham Y Pool Sharks has begun to compete at the Canadian Swimming Championships in Montreal, Quebec.

Broad raced 100m Backstroke on Thursday where she finished 17th in prelims with a time of 1:04.30 then in finals swam a 1:04.64 to finish 19th.

Day 2 brought on the 50m Backstroke where Broad swam a 29.67 in prelims to finish 10th and make her first “A” final at a senior level swim meet. At finals, she swam a 29.65 to tied for 9th place making this her best placement at this level of meet.

“I was very happy with my 50m Back today because making an ‘A’ final is a big deal to me especially in an event where it counts down to the millisecond,” said Broad about making her first Senior National ‘A’ final.

“Finishing 9th even being tied was very hard to accomplish and I’m proud of myself breaking this huge milestone,” added the grade 10 UCC student who hails from Wallaceburg.

Saturday, Madison raced in the 200m Backstroke where she finished 29th in prelims with a time of 2:21.31.

Next up for Broad will 50m Freestyle on Sunday.
