Sharks On The Loose!

Chatham, ON- This past weekend was a busy one for the Chatham Pool Sharks and had them competing and training across Ontario and the US.

Winter Festivals (AKA Junior Provincials)- Six Pool Sharks represented the team at the Winter Festivals Short Course Championship meet in Nepean. Swimmers who achieved the short course Festival time standards were eligible to compete. Sharks achieved fantastic results achieving 30/32 personal bests and swimming 13 medals and 19 top-8 finishes:

Quinn Matteis (M 13)

  • Gold- 400 IM, 200 free, 800 free, 200 fly,
  • Bronze- 200 back, 200 IM

Madeleine Tran (F 13)

  • Gold- 100 back
  • Bronze- 200 back
  • 4th– 400 IM
  • 6th– 200 IM
  • 8th– 200 fly

Cameron Schinkleshoek (M 10)

  • Silver- 200 IM
  • Bronze- 100 IM, 200 free, 200 back, 400 free
  • 4th– 100 back

Kaidance Mattes (F 11)

  • 5th 100 fly

Noah Matteis (M 10)

  • 8th– 200 free

SEAL Meet- younger Pool Sharks competed at the SEAL meet held in Leamington on Sunday. This is the second last meet on the SEAL circuit before the final championship meet to be held in April. Sharks earned 5 top-3 results and 17 top-8 results:

Oscar Copeland (M 9)

  • 50m Breaststroke- 7th
  • 25m Butterfly- 5th

Chase Ellis ( M 11)

  • 25m Breaststroke- 4th
  • 25m Backstroke – 5th
  • 25m Butterfly- 6th
  • 25m Freestyle- 7th

Max Ellis (M 8)

  • 100m Freestyle Final, 50m Breaststroke- 8th

Ethan Gobert (12 M)

  • 200m Freestyle- bronze
  • 100m Backstroke, 100m fly- 4th

Caleb VanDooren (M 9)

  • 50m Breaststroke- 5th

Averie Gobert (F 9)

  • 100m Breaststroke- Gold
  • 100m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly- Bronze
  • 100m Freestyle- 5th

Hannah Thompson (F 10)

  • 100m Butterfly- bronze
  • 100m Freestyle- 8th

Team Ontario Florida Training Camp- three Pool Sharks were selected to the final Team Ontario roster to attend an intense 10-day training camp in Islamorada Florida under the guidance of the Provincial coach. Maddy Broad, Genevieve Sasseville, and David Tran are attending the camp in hopes of putting in a push of intense training heading towards the Canadian Swimming Nationals (AKA Senior Nationals) April 5-8 in Montreal.
