Ten-year-old thrower, Emma Negri of Blenheim, completed her 2018 Outdoor Track & Field season on July 29 with a gold medal winning shot put throw of 7.79m at the Minor Track Association (MTA) Outdoor Provincial Championship at the Mohawk Sports Park in Hamilton, Ontario.

Negri beat out 9 other competitors in the Tyke Girls division (born 2008/2009) to win the title.

Emma Negri also competed in discus and won the Bronze medal with a throw of 15.05 m. As there is no discus event for the Tyke division, Negri competed up a division with the Atom girls (born 2010/2011).

The MTA Outdoor Provincial Championships hosted over 800 athletes from multiple track and field clubs
across Ontario on July 28 and 29. Emma throws for Blenheim-based Excel Athletics and is coached by
her father, Darren Negri, a former local thrower.

Since January, Negri has competed in shot put in 9 different indoor and outdoor track and field meets and has won the gold medal in every event, including the MTA Indoor Championship, improving her personal best throw of 5.56m at the end of 2017 to 7.79m at the 2018 Outdoor Championship. While the opportunities to compete in discus were low, Emma threw discus in 2 events during the outdoor season, both in the Atom division, bringing home a silver and a bronze.

Emma Negri will continue her training through the remainder of the summer and fall in preparation for the
start of the 2019 Indoor season which begins in January.
