Van De Ven Thrilled With OHL Selection

Caleb Van De Ven

Becoming an OHL Draft pick was a thrilling event for former Chatham-Kent Cyclones defenceman Caleb Van De Ven.

Van De Ven, who played for the Cyclones last season in his Major Bantam campaign, was selected in the 13th round, 244th overall by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the 2020 OHL Draft.

“Very excited to be selected by the Soo Greyhounds. It’s very special and was a childhood dream come true,” Van De Ven said of his selection.

The 6’1″ right shot blueliner had 5 points in 31 games for the Lambton Jr. Sting ‘AAA’ team this season.

The Deleware product also scored a goal for the GOJHL’s St. Thomas Stars, appearing in 4 games for the Stars as an affiliate.

Now, he’s turning his focus toward next season, and reaching for the highest level of hockey he can play at.

“My goal for next season is to play at the highest level of hockey possible and to continue developing and growing as a player,” Van De Ven said following the draft.

Whether it is the GOJHL, or Major Midget ‘AAA’, Van De Ven will be a player to watch in the coming seasons.
