Vanrabaeys Lifts Dresden to Overtime Win Against Wallaceburg

The Dresden Junior Kings started their season with a dramatic 5-4 overtime win over the Wallaceburg Lakers in the first game of the Highway 78 series.

Jeff Vanrabaeys, a player new Dresden Kings head coach Marc Swayze pointed to preseason as a key to the team’s success, scored the overtime winning goal for the Kings with just over a minute to go in the extra frame.

Vanrabaeys also scored the games first goal for the Dresden Kings. Cam Ross had a goal and an assist for Dresden, while Alex Schmidt and Kyle Havens also scored for the Kings. Josh Beatty and Jim Rouse each had two assists in the win.

The Wallaceburg Lakers, who iced a largely rookie roster, saw their veterans step up to the plate with Tyson Isaac scoring twice and adding an assist, while Dustin Cope and Scott Lubbers also scored.

Wallaceburg will travel to Blenheim Sunday evening to face their Blades in their home opener before welcoming the Dresden Kings back to Wallaceburg on Wednesday.
