The U16 Chatham Thunder ringette team are looking good, finishing the first half of their season with a 10-2 record, including a tournament win in Cambridge this past weekend.

The first match of the tourney was Friday afternoon where the Thunder played the Markham Bears. The lopsided win finished with an 8-0 score in favour of Chatham. Kate Thompson led the charge with a goal and three assists. Shelby Ritzer had 2 goals and a helper from the blueline. Ireland DaSilva had a goal and 2 assists. Emelie Newman, Rebecca Durocher, and Myah Walters all had one and one. Kaitlyn Sammon also scored. Alayna White and Maya Haines chipped in with an assist each from the blueline as well.

Game 2 was Saturday at noon with the Newmarket Rays. The Thunder put the hammer down and cruised to a 9-1 victory. DaSilva with a hat trick and a helper. Newman with another hat trick. Her sister Allison Newman cruised in from the blueline and buried one as well. Thompson and Sammon both scored as well. Emma Winkler had two assists for her first points of the tourney and Ritzer had a couple helpers as well.

The third game would prove to be a little more difficult. Playing Saturday afternoon against the hometown Cambridge Turbos had a different feel as Cambridge had won their first two games in similar style to Chatham. It turned out to be a preview of the gold medal game the next day as both squads would advance to Sunday. Chatham still took care of business though with a 4-1 win. Walters, Sammon and Ritzer all tallied a goal and assist. DaSilva with another goal. Emelie Newman had two assists while singles went to Haines and Winkler.

Sundays gold medal game had a bit more animosity to it. Playing against the hosts in their own building is always a tough task. Don’t try to tell the ladies of the Chatham Thunder that. Chatham jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over six minutes into the game and locked it down on the way to a 4-1 gold-clenching win. DaSilva with another 2 goals and an assist. Emelie Newman with a goal and two helpers. Thompson chipped in with the other goal while Durocher,Sammon,Winkler and Haines all had assists.

In net for the tournament was Natalie Haggerty. She sparkled when she had to, allowing only three goals in the four games played.
