Brooke MacLeod is carrying on a long line of talented Chatham-Kent athletes who compete with the University of Windsor Lancers.

MacLeod, who is moving on to Windsor from Ursuline College Chatham, said she chose Windsor for a combination of athletics and academic.

“I chose University of Windsor not only for the soccer team, but also for the great human kinetics program offered at this school. The coaches for the women’s soccer team are also very approachable and show a great sense of knowledge of the game. They care for all of their players, and their successes.”

MacLeod is a multi-sport standout, having qualified for OFSAA in cross country, track and field, and hockey, along with winning an All-Ontario Catholic soccer title.

The opportunity to continue playing sports at the post secondary level however, is a dream come true for the Chatham product.

“Quite honestly, it is like a dream come true,” said MacLeod. “From the age I knew I could play soccer at a higher level, it was my goal. I went to the Eastside Kickers Windsor Soccer, so I would play year round, giving myself a better opportunity to succeed in my goal.:

Despite her choice to pursue soccer, MacLeod loved competing in all sports, a passion which earned her multiple MVP honours at UCC, and saw her named UCC’s Female Athlete of the Year last year.

“I loved all of the connections and friendships I made with every coach and teammate from each sport. Each coach was always there for me, whether it was academically or athletically. They always had the best intentions for me. Having supportive teammates was also amazing, because in each match or race, you knew someone was there cheering you on. Also, I loved always being in a sport in every season to help me in staying fit year round.”

Despite that interest in all sports, soccer has always had MacLeod’s heart.

“Soccer was always my number one sport. I started playing at a very young age, and kept playing and grew a stronger love for it every year. I played multiple other sports throughout life like figure skating, hockey, cross country and more, but soccer was always my favourite sport.”
