Upgrades scheduled for the Lambton-Kent Composite School sporting complex continue to receive support from government, the school board, and now the local community, as another major funding announcement was made by the Dresden Community Development Association this week.

“Some pretty big sporting news occurring in Dresden this coming week,” organizer Ian Avery wrote to CKSN. “North Kent Mutual Insurance has pledged to match up to $50 000 in community donations to the LK Community Sports Field project. This is the first time we have solicited community members for donations and NOW they’ll be matched!”

The funding will go toward the project, which will cost a total of $540,000 to add two irrigated soccer fields, a 400m track, baseball diamond, washrooms and storage facility, and a more than 1km extension to the existing Trillium Trail, to the existing athletic facilities at LKCS in Dresden, Ontario.

In addition to North Kent’s pledge, the Dresden group has already received a total of $298,500 in funding from the Lambton-Kent District School Board, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, and Ontario Trillium Foundation grants.

In support of North Kent Mutual Insurance’s pledge to match community donations, a kick-off BBQ and Matching event is slated for this Friday at NKM’s downtown Dresden location from 11am-5pm. The campaign will continue until October 10th. Charitable receipts will be given on the spot that day.
To elicit further interest, the group is awarding top business (6 tickets), top family (4 tickets) and top individual donations (2 tickets) on September 19th only with luxury suite tickets for the Detroit Red Wings @ Toronto Maple Leafs on October 3rd. (tickets donated by Bob Sellars, Dundee Securities Ltd.).

“This is a huge step in our overall fundraising drive,” added Avery about the event.
