If Madison Broad’s golds were actually made of the precious medal, the young swimmer would be rich.

Broad won the Women’s 14 year old 100m Backstroke with a personal best time of 1:03.80 to receive her third gold medal and fourth total medal of the meet.

“Today my races went well,” said Madison Broad, who is entering grade 10 at UCC this Fall. “In prelims my goal was to make a final and in finals I got 1st with a best time of 1:03.80. Overall today I think I did well and I felt well.”

Brendan Vanherk of Blenheim Blast Swim Team raced in finals in the Men’s 15 yr. old 100m Backstroke finishing 4th with a personal best time of 1:01.30. He had also competed in the Men’s 15 yr. old 200m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle in prelims earlier in the day. Brendan finished 19th in 200m Breaststroke with a personal best time of 2:37.37 and 15th in 200m Freestyle with a personal best time of 2:02.86.

Day 5 will have Madison Broad & Genevieve Sasseville competing in 50m Butterfly while Brendan Van Herk will be competing in 200m IM and 50m Butterfly.

Broad is already looking forward to her race strategy and another strong finish.

“My race strategy for the 50m Fly is to have good underwater and get my head down before my hands hit the water,” she said. “I also need to take fewer breaths and kick harder.”

The group of swimmers all represent the Chatham Y Pool Sharks.
