Griffith Named To Maple Leafs Opening Day Roster

The same day Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the 5’9″ forward was named to Toronto’s opening day roster.

Griffith, who was amongst AHL scoring leaders last season with the Providence Bruins, was placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins, before Toronto claimed him.

Griffith had 24 goals and 77 points in 57 games last season for Providence, and also appeared in 4 NHL games.

Also on Toronto’s opening day roster are prospects Austin Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander. In total the Toronto Maple Leafs had 13 forwards on their opening day roster.

Former Blenheim Blades forward Matt Martin was also on Toronto’s opening night roster, after the team signed Martin during free agency this summer.

The Maple Leafs will open their 2016-2017 NHL regular season Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators.
